TOUR OF THE WW I SITES

We will take you from Sabotin – Peace Park above Nova Gorica, to Kobarid in the Soča Valley. Following the routes of the First World War, visiting open-air museums with many caverns, trenches and stories that marked this area and the places along the Soča River.

OUR ITINERARY:

  • Sabotin, straddling two countries and with a view of the Adriatic Sea and the Alps. A symbol of peace. We will meet a local guide and walk through WW1 sites.
  • Driving towards Kolovrat ridge in the Soča Valley. Kolovrat offers exceptional views over the emerald river, the Julian Alps, Slavia Friulana, the Friuli lowland and the Adriatic Sea. Today, we can enjoy the peace of unspoiled nature here, while during World War I the Kolovrat had to witness the destructive Isonzo Front. In the outdoor museum we are going to explore the onetime Italian line of defence with the preserved command posts, shooting positions, a network of trenches.
  • Kobarid and the Kobarid museum, Italian ossuaryKobarid is a historic town surrounded by the beautiful nature of the Soča valley. With stories from the First and Second World Wars. We will visit the Kobarid museum – museum of a human and their distress, stories of soldiers on the Isonzo Front. Above the town is the Italian ossuary, a military memorial to fallen Italian soldiers. Impressive architecture with views of the valley.
  • Cividale – Friuli Italy, a visit to a UNESCO pearl. A short walk through the old town and time for an Italian espresso or a glass of wine.

* Instead of Cividale, you can enjoy the wine tasting in Kobarid – exclusive natural wines of Slovenija represented by the expert and sommelier Alen. Learning about wine culture of different wine regions, from Karst to Vipava Valley, Brda, East Slovenia. Kobarid is becoming a wine capital of the valley.
